As a free site or AEN builder, filtering your traffic is more important than ever now. The days are long gone when we can put up one site and get massive amounts of traffic and make a ton of sales off that one site. Now, we have to deal with less visitors and work harder to convert them into paying customers.

We can make two facts about any free site we build:

Fact 1: We can only offer so many choices to the surfer in our free site.
Fact 2: The surfer may not like the choices we give him.

Let’s take a look at a fictional porn surfer named Joe. Joe is a perpetual clicker. He just loves to click on links. When a site is on the new list, there is a good chance Joe will click it if there is something in the title that attracts his eye. Joe is a size queen and likes big cocks. But, Joe also likes his men over 30 and deep down he has a passion for uncut cocks. So, we could profile Joe as a guy that likes men over 30 with big uncut cocks.

You have created a site called, “Twinks With Big Cocks”. The site has pictures of hung twinks and advertises one sponsor. Joe didn’t know what a twink was as he never really understood the term, but he sure knows what a big cock is. Joe hates the pictures and the sponsor doesn’t interest him either. He leaves your site and clicks the next on the link list. Remember, Joe is a perpetual clicker.

What did you do wrong as a free site builder? Simple. You didn’t give Joe any choices to find something he liked. Filtering your traffic would have given Joe a choice he liked. Briefly, filtering your traffic is giving a surfer choices that leads him to something that he likes. Link lists do this all the time by offering categories with banner ads and sites in each category. Within each category they may even filter the traffic more by offering ads to regular membership sites and VOD sites as well. A surfer that likes asian guys may only like the pay per minute model, so a good webmaster would filter that surfer down to a page that offers asian guys and both regular membership sites and pay per minute sites.

Filtering our traffic is important and will be addressed in the traffic trap that we create later. There are two simple ways to filter traffic from free sites. One way is to find a sponsor that offers a buy one, get access to all type deals, create a page with thumbs to all their sites and a brief description of each site, and send a surfer there by a link from a free site. Another way is to create a page or pages with all your free sites listed and broken down into categories. Send surfers from your free sites to this page. Good text for doing this on your free site maybe, “didn’t find what you are looking for here? Visit [Hub Name] for 100 more great free sites”. The more catchy your hub name, the more surfers you will get to the hub.

Back to Joe for a minute. Let’s just say we had a hub called Best Gay Sites, and we advertised it on our free site. Joe clicked the link. Remember Joe is a perpetual clicker. Best Gay Sites had a men over 30 category, and within that category there were five free sites, one was named “Real Men With Uncut Cocks”. Where do you think Joe is going to go?
