Actually, I caught quite a few to be exact.

The term “whale” has many meanings in this business. A whale can be an affiliate that can send a large amount of signups to a sponsor. A whale can be porn consumer who spends a considerable amount of money on a live show or VOD site. A whale can also be a whale.

There is another kind of whale. A whale can also be a member that joins a site and forgets about it for a long period of time. He may spend $30 a month for 12 months and never visit the site. It happens.

I was a whale once. I joined a site to see if it was worth marketing. Eighteen months later I went and checked my stats and realized someone had been a member over a year. Yes, it was me.  Not one time after I joined the site did I ever visit it again, yet I paid my $29.99 every month.

Right now I know I have caught at least 22 whales. How can I know that? I have been getting rebills from marketing a site that went offline over 6 months ago. These rebills come in like clockwork. In fact, I am more sure that these will rebill than I am any new members that I send to a site that has regular updates.

So, next time all you paysite owners get upset about a refund, ask yourself this, “how many whales do I have sitting at the bottom of my ocean?”. Maybe it’s time to send out an email to all inactive members asking why they haven’t been to your site in three months. I think not. Enjoy your whales.
