DVD sales are in free fall. Audiences are flocking to pornographic knockoffs of YouTube, especially a secretive site called YouPorn. And the amateurs are taking over. What’s happening to the adult-entertainment industry is exactly what’s happening to its Hollywood counterpart—only worse.
Just got done reading a long and interesting article on the porn industry from Conde Nest Portfolio. It pretty much sums up what I have felt all along. DVD sales will continue to decline in market share, tube sites will grow in popularity with no real proven revenue stream, and porn producers will fight a battle to make their online business revenue replace their physical products at an equal number. The winners will be video on demand companies, unless they fuck it up.

1Ten to One they fuck it up.. if they haven’t already.
DVD sales were doomed to plummet once pay per view hit cable, the Internet. Only one’s buying dvds are the collectors and the video stores for rentals.

2Agreed. I just got done reading an article in MacWorld magazine in which Steve Jobs even predicts no future for DVD’s. Will make a post on that tomorrow.
I think VOD will go through some growing pains. One industry can’t replace another without some “fuck ups”. I don’t think the DVD producers can deal with a price war on the pay per minute front.
